The fact
According to a study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in December 2021, one person in three does not feel comfortable during video calls.
The discomfort is said to come from dissatisfaction with seeing one's own face during the meeting.
Despite the use of filters or special backgrounds, not feeling good during meetings would also penalise the meeting itself: concentration would not be 100% on the topics, as attention would partly shift to looking at and judging oneself on screen.

In search of perfection
If the anxiety about having a perfect face once seemed reserved for users of certain social networks, today, with the rise of online work meetings, more and more people are starting to suffer from body dysmorphic disorder, and this condition would affect work itself.
Consider that over 60% of the people who took part in the survey said they were seriously considering cosmetic or plastic surgery, having to use video-call apps frequently.
This figure helps us understand how much image and self-perception have direct effects on our psyche and therefore on our daily lives.
The role of the Image and Communication Consultant
The link between appearance and self-esteem shows the fundamental role of personal and professional image, and that's why turning to an Image and Communication Consultant can be a great help in gaining greater self-awareness.
Focusing on your uniqueness, learning enhancement techniques and understanding how to communicate through your image bring, among their benefits, making peace with the mirror and, as a result, improving your performance at work.

Pleasing others and pleasing yourself: a subtle difference
From these more or less unconscious attitudes comes the need to acquire the knowledge that lets you look your best and raise your self-esteem, so you can show your worth to others without fear of judgement.
When it comes to work and performance, image is central, and if our goal is to grow or make ourselves known, it's worth learning to manage it!
