Many people decide to cut their hair or change part of their wardrobe after a promotion, a job change or the end of a relationship.
Whether you decide to change your image to feel more confident or to close a chapter of your life, the connection between life experiences and changes of look is clear.
Asking whether the changes we made were conscious, chosen to meet a need of ours, or to conform to a context is important to understand which type of identity prevails in us: personal, social or place identity.
Changing our outward appearance means telling ourselves and those who look at us that we are different, but often those who change do so unconsciously.
During image consultations I explore my clients' motivations and try to understand their personal and professional goals, precisely to reverse the cause-and-effect relationship between “new life and new look”.
Image, as a means of communication, tells our identity and, placed in a social context, helps us reach certain goals.
Our image is the first part of us that reaches the other person, and our haircut, the colours, shapes and fabrics we wear have the power to communicate and stir emotions.
So I believe it's wise to visualise who we want to be or what we want to achieve and then choose a suitable look.
Understanding who we want to be, what our tastes, wishes and goals are, is the foundation of an effective image-change journey.
Choosing an outfit only based on who we're meeting, or going to a job interview respecting only the implicit codes, isn't enough.
In the first case we risk not showing who we are and putting others' approval first. In the second we risk blending into a context and coming across as ordinary.
In both cases the choice might be right at first, but over time, not considering the other aspects of your image could lead to unsatisfying and frustrating relationships and situations.
With a structured image journey, it's possible to achieve an ideal, effective look based on your needs, tailored to your physical and personal characteristics.
For this purpose I created the CG Imagine Image Assessment, which will let you make a winning change, in both your personal and professional life!
